The Cake Hole

I didn't realize it, but I've been racking up places to have tea and they are too good to be kept a secret :) Let me begin with the first place I visited back in March called the Cake Hole. It is aptly named as a little hole in the wall in the back of Vintage Heaven off of Columbia Flower Market where you can delight yourself with classic English cakes.  Here you'll be having communal tea circa 1970 nibbling on finger sandwiches. Follow the falling petals to this charming cafe.

Betty Blythe Vintage Tea Room

Recently I went to a sweet little tea room called Betty Blythe, named after the silver screen siren of the '20s. When I found out it was a vintage tea room I had to go! I drank a lovely rooibos vanilla tea in the midst of 25 other choices with the Betty Blythe blend consisting of a light mix of lavender, rose, and early grey. I would love to go back for the full service of afternoon tea - dainty finger sandwiches, overflowing vintage tea pots, and classic cream scones or truffle chocolate brownies, and other handcrafted goodness.  It is a cafe open like usual, but you can have tea parties with friends and dress up in vintage clothes from their trunk and take part in their workshops like chocolate truffle making, charleston dance lessons, hat making, vintage hair and makeup. Oh my! Here are my phone pictures for a tiny glimpse. The owner Lulu also wrote a beautiful book on how to host your own vintage tea party with themes starting at Victorian and ending in the '50s - it's on my wish list. ♥
